Medical Exam

The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG will be conducted by the NTA from 2019 onwards. This Test was being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) till 2018. NEET (UG) is applicable for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses in India in Medical/Dental Colleges run with the approval of Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India except for the institutions established through an Act of Parliament i.e. AIIMS and JIPMER Puducherry.

The responsibility of the NTA will limited to the conduct of the entrance examination.

NEET 2023 Exam Pattern

Those who plan to ace the exam should be aware of the accurate exam pattern. Students can refer to the overview of NEET 2023 Exam Pattern mentioned below – 

Exam mode and duration: The exam is conducted in offline mode for a duration of 3 hours.

Marking Scheme: Every question in the paper carries 4 marks. Candidates will be rewarded 4 marks for every correct response. 1 mark will be deducted from the total score for every incorrect response. There is no negative marking for unattempted questions.

Candidates are given a question paper, and they have to mark their responses in the provided OMR sheet.

NTA determines the NEET Exam Pattern with the aim of shortlisting the most deserving candidates for medical courses. Exam Pattern details for the exam are tabulated below:

NEET 2023 Medium of Exam

NEET 2023 aspirants have the option of choosing from 2 official languages and 9 regional languages

NEET 2023 Merit List

All India Merit List (AIR) will include the rank numbers and names of all candidates who appear for NEET 2023. It will not take into accord the candidate’s category or their stance towards the AIQ reservation.

AIQ Merit list will showcase the test takers who get selected for the AIQ 50% reservation. Applicants from the state of Jammu and Kashmir will not be included since they have abstained from the centralized counselling process.

If any applicants wish to independently claim eligibility, they must submit an online self-declaration which will be printed along with the confirmation page and must be submitted during counselling.

State medical councils will prepare their own merit lists for counselling on the basis of a multitude of factors such as the applicant’s eligibility on the basis of their domicile requirement. It will depict the state rank of candidates on a comparative scale with applicants from the same state.

Eligibility for Merit List

Age: The candidate should be 17 years of age by December 31, 2023. There is no upper age limit for NEET 2022 as per an interim order of the supreme court. However, the candidature of aspirants more than 25 years of age is subject to the final orders of the Supreme Court.

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must have Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology as their subjects in Class XII.

General Category– 50% marks in qualifying exam and NEET.

OBC/SC/ST Category– 40% marks in qualifying exam and NEET.

General- Physically Handicapped Category– 45% marks in qualifying exam and NEET.

Candidates appearing for Class XII exam may also give NEET and will be admitted on a provisional basis.

Candidates of distance learning or private students and those who have biology as an additional subject are also eligible for the exam.

There is no limit on the number of attempts for NEET 2020. Candidates can appear for the exam as many times as they want
